A directionally stabilized vertical, parametric sound converter transmitter (1) beams sound towards the ground (3) in a narrow, vertical beam (2). A sound converter receiver (4) picks up corresponding echo signals. Reflected signals (7) from a slanted, parametric swiveling sound converter transmitter (5) are picked up by a slanted sound receiver converter (8). The axes of the main beams from these sound converters lie in a vertical plane.
