Artificial biofilm, comprising microorganisms immobilized on a synthetic extracellular polymer substance (EPS) matrix containing embedded additives, is new. An Independent claim is also included for a test system for evaluating the effectiveness of biocidal and cleaning products and procedures, comprising using the change in vitality of the microorganisms in the artificial biofilm after treatment with a product or procedure as a measure of its effectiveness.
