Control units frequently include a second computing unit which for reasons of cost are hard-wired into the system such that the program structure can no longer be altered, even though requirements for change in the program may arise during further development phases, with the result that a new electrical circuit has to be developed, resulting in an enormous increase in manufacturing costs and time. To avoid this problem and to allow quick and easy input of new data into the computer unit with a hard-wired logic unit, the new- control- and/or regulating-sequences and/or data to be introduced are initially input into a first memory unit (3) of the first computer unit (1) and subsequently transferred to the second computer unit (7) and filed there in a memory unit (10) of the second computer unit (7) having unoccupied memory sites, as a result of which the function of the second computer unit (7) is changed.
