The laser has a pump radiation source, focusing elements and a resonator formed by reflective surfaces with at least one laser crystal, an acousto-optical switch and optionally a frequency doubling crystal. The acousto-optical Q-switch is connected to an electronic unit generating a high frequency wave that controls the switch so laser pulses of lengths of one or more microseconds are produced by controlling a modulation function edge gradient. The laser has a pump radiation source with associated focusing elements and a resonator formed by reflective surfaces and containing at least one laser crystal, an acousto-optical switch and optionally a frequency doubling crystal. The acousto-optical Q-switch is connected to an electronic unit generating a high frequency wave that can be modulated and that controls the switch so that laser pulses of lengths of one or more microseconds are produced by controlling the gradient of the edges of the modulation function.
