Automotive brake actuator of spring and cylinder uses relatively moving components of linear guide mounting both spring and cylinder to vary guide length and so define piston travel and spring change.
The hydraulic cylinder (12) and spring (14) are separate components although fixed releasably to the same specifically linear guide element joined in one part to cylinder by a screw thread. The spring is a coil spring and the linear guide has two relatively moving components (1,3,5 and 2,4,6), of which the first (1,3,5) is fixed to a carbody part and the second (2,4,6) is connected to the brake lever (22). Moving the two components in relation to one another varies the total length of the guide element. The first component (1,3,5) is connected to the body part (17) by a knee lever (16) which in turn is hinged to both body part (17) and the first guide conponent (1,3,5). The lever (16) is rigidly connected to the body part (17) and held thus by a safety element. In this way, the lever (17) has only to be turned to release the brake.
