A plate is extruded and the cell structure stabilized before a post foaming operation in which heat is supplied to the plate to induce further expansion without melting the foam. Post foaming occurs either as a plate is pressed against a structured or embossed surface(15,16) or the structured surface can be pressed into the post foamed plate while the latter is still in a deformable state.
