The tank (1) is cleaned by cleaning fluid, applied to the inside of the tank by cleaning jets (4). The cleaning fluid drains from the tank through an outlet (21), and is returned to the spray jets via fluid pipes (28) and a sealable return pipe (26), in a closed cleaning fluid circuit, via the animal feed pump (5) in the tank, a water pump, or a separate pump (8). The cleaning fluid is circulated continuously without fluid being added or removed, so that the cleaning process can be continued over a chosen period.
