The intensity of the airflow that holds a yarn during pneumatic handling is adjusted to suit the working conditions, e.g. different phases of the manipulation process or different yarn characteristics. Typically, initial entrainment or cutting of the yarn requires high airflow intensity, while the intensity can be reduced at other times. An Independent claim is also included for a device for holding a yarn (22, 203, 233, 250) using an air source provided through a line containing a control valve (9) connected to a controller (5) that generates the necessary adjustment according to working conditions or a program.
