The invention concerns a leg assembly, preferably for a table, with telescopically extending legs. The invention also concerns a process for fabricating part of a leg. The aim of the invention is to improve this kind of leg assembly, in particular with regard to ease of fabrication and assembly and reliability in use. The invention achieves this aim by calling for a telescopic inside element in the leg to be designed, in the zone which passes through the shim of a locking device, so that it is sufficiently open on one side for the shim to be extensively exposed on this side and hence able to operate directly in conjunction with the locking device. Two or four legs with a common locking device preferably form a functional unit.
