The invention describes a solvent extraction process for the removal of hydrogen fluoride from compounds arising from a preparation of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane(HFC-365mfc) from a chlorinated precursor. Complete separation of hydrogen fluoride is difficult by distillation due to formation of azeotropes. A process for the separation of HF from mixtures with HFC-365mfc by means of an extraction with an organic solvent containing a chloro(fluoro)butane of general formula : CClaF3-aCH2CClbF3-bCH3 (I)(a = 0 - 3 ; b = 0 -2 ; a+b = 1 or more). An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of HFC-365mfc from compounds of formula(I).
