The offshore platform has wellhead(s) (51, 52) in a base (1) on the sea floor, conduit(s) inside a column (2) extending from the base to the surface and control equipment at the top of the column. The column includes a frangible device (9) near the base but above the wellhead(s) that sever the column when an impact by an iceberg or pack ice exceeds a threshold. Preferred Features: The frangible device may be a thinner weakened concrete wall of the column. The edge of the base is inclined to reduce the effect of an iceberg impacting against it.
