Risk of thrombosis in a patient is detected by searching for an anomaly in the fibrinogen in their plasma. The method is used with patients having a normal level of fibrinogen in their plasma and there is no delay in the thrombin time, i.e. coagulation of fibrinogen at low concentrations of thrombin. An Independent claim is included for a kit for purifying fibrinogen for use in method as above. Preferred Features: The anomaly is in the electrophoretic migration of fibrinogen in sample of 0.1-2.0 ml produced by coloring proteins in the gel and marking the fibrinogen with specific antibodies. Plasma is removed from the sample using adsorption chromatography. The bands produced by electrophoresis of a sample are compared with bands from reference samples.
