Set accelerator for a hydraulic binder comprises an aqueous suspension consisting of a mixture of a polyol and an aluminum compound selected from aluminum salts and oxides. Polyol content is at least 5 wt.% of the suspension. Aluminum compound concentration is above 0.1 mole and less than 0.22 mole of Al per 100 g of the suspension. The pH of the suspension is at most 5. Polyol content is preferably above 10 wt.%, more preferably above 15 wt. % of the suspension. The aqueous suspension can also include a silica. Independent claims are given for: (i) use of the aqueous suspension as a set accelerator for an hydraulic binder, where the content of the suspension with respect to the binder is at least 1 wt.%; and (ii) a set accelerator based on an aluminum compound and providing a setting time of at most 6 minutes.
