The reinforcement consists of a metal plate (1) fixed to the surface of a door adjacent to its edge and fitted over the mortise lock. The plate has a fixed bolt (14) projecting beyond the edge of the door and engaging with a slot (21) in a catch plate (2) fixed to the jamb. The catch plate is equipped with a mechanism to lock the bolt as it engages with the slot, e.g. in the form of a rotary cylinder or lever mechanism actuated by the bolt of the mortise lock.
