The present invention provides a 2,2-bis(6-benzotriazolylphenol) compound represented by the formula ;wherein;A represents a methylene group or the like,;R¹ and R⁵ each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like,;R² represents a hydrogen atom or the like,;R³ represents an alkylene group or the like, and;R⁴ represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.;The compound of the invention is useful as an UV absorber. Further, the compound of the invention can be incorporated into a copolymer by copolymerization with a vinyl monomer, and a polymer composition containing the copolymer can be used as an UV absorber.
