PURPOSE: To continuously produce a porous sintered compact of metallic fibers having a desired void volume by press forming a porous material which clamps a metallic fiber web with conductive flexible sheet-like insert materials and heating and sintering the metallic fibers by energizing a pair of conductive rolls. ;CONSTITUTION: The porous material is produced by clamping both front surfaces of the web 7 consisting of the metallic fibers (metallic materials of a cross area of about 10 to 5μm covered with oxidized films on the surfaces) are clamped with the conductive flexible sheet-like insert materials 8 (for example, wire nets). Such porous material is inserted between a pair of the conductive rolls 1 and 2 (chromium copper, etc.) and a power source is supplied between the rolls to pass currents via the porous material, by which the porous material is press formed and the metallic fibers are heated and sintered. At this time, the current value is specified to about 4000 to 20000A, the roll speed to about 2m/sec and the pressurizing force to about 10 to 130kgf/cm.
