PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of smelting an ultra-low carbon (dead- soft) steel having a carbon content of below 35 ppm or a further low content of below 15 ppm.;SOLUTION: In the method for producing the ultra-low carbon steel by vacuum decarburizing a molten steel which is smelted in a converter and includes 0.04-0.06% of carbon using an RH degassing treatment equipment, the idle period of time in a degassing is regulated to shorter than 40 min and the RH degassing tank is lined with a magnesia-carbon brick containing less than 7 mass% of carbon, preferably less than 3 mass%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
