PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate carbon dioxide effectively and inexpensively.;SOLUTION: By bringing an ion source into contact with the positive electrode 11 of a solid electrolyte 10 provided with the electrode 11 and a negative electrode 12, bringing a gas containing carbon dioxide and oxygen into contact with the electrode 12 of the electrolyte 10, and applying a voltage between the electrodes 11 and 12, the carbon dioxide in the gas is separated and fixed to form a carbonate on the side of the electrode 12. When the electrolyte 10 is a sodium ion conductor, the ion source is a sodium compound, whereas when it is a lithium ion conductor, the ion source is a lithium compound.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
