PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a chemical and to provide method both for reducing the toxicity to aquatic organism of an aqueous medium containing its flow accelerator which can reduce the friction resistance of intratubular turbulent flow in a wide temperature range from low to high temperatures.;SOLUTION: This chemical is for reducing the toxicity to aquatic organisms of an aqueous medium containing its flow accelerator. The accelerator comprises a quaternary ammonium salt having an 8-22C long-chain aliphatic group and an aromatic compound having a carboxyl group. The chemical comprises at least one organic acid or its salt selected from the group consisting of (i) organic sulfonic acids and their salts, (ii) organic sulfuric esters and their salts, and (iii) organic polycarboxylic acids and their salts.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
