PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an operating method for a fuel metering system 11 for a direct-injection internal combustion engine 1 that is designed to feed fuel from a fuel storage container 12 to a low-pressure range ND of the fuel metering system, and furthermore by means of high-pressure pumps 14 and 15 controlled if necessary, from the low-pressure range to a high-pressure accumulator 16, whose injection pressure pr created is adjusted by changes in discharge rates q1 and q2 of the high-pressure pumps, and then inject the fuel from the high-pressure accumulator into a combustion chamber 4 of the internal combustion engine, in order that all the high-pressure pumps become homogeneous.;SOLUTION: The respective discharge rates q1 and q2 of the high-pressure pumps are corrected to the same value, q1=q2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
