SOLUTION: Concerning the town information providing system composed of a town information providing device (hereafter, providing device) 5 for providing town information, in which the place or guide of a store or facility is described with character data or image data, a guide item providing server (server) 11 for providing the list data of guide items corresponding to each of stores or facilities contained in the town information and a portable terminal for town information (portable terminal) 3 connected with the server 11 through a public line 71 based on the radio of a portable telephone system or the like and connected by radio communication 75 of infrared rays or radio waves with the providing device 5, the list data of guide items are transmitted from the server 11 to the portable terminal 3, information specifying one or plural guide items in the list data of guide items is transmitted from the portable terminal 3 to the providing device 5, and detailed town information is acquired.
