Skin lightening cosmetic composition, skin lightening method in mammals and process for preparing such cosmetic composition

The present invention relates to skin lightening comprising: 0.1 to 5 percent by weight, based on the composition total weight, of at least one water-soluble reducing agent selected from the group consisting of sodium sulfite, potassium sulfite, ammonium sulfite, sodium hydrogen sulfite, potassium hydrogen sulfite, ammonium hydrogen sulfite, sodium metabisulfite, potassium metabisulfite, formic acid, oxalic acid and mixtures thereof, and a cosmetically acceptable carrier and lecithin, whereby the said cosmetic composition is substantially free of hydroquinone or hydroquinone derivatives. Said reducing agent is preferably selected from the group consisting of sodium sulfite, sodium hydrogen sulfite, sodium metabisulfite, and mixtures thereof. The cosmetic composition comprises a) 1 to 5 percent by weight, based on the composition total weight, of at least one water-soluble reducing agent selected from the group consisting of sodium sulfite, potassium sulfite, ammonium sulfite, sodium hydrogen sulfite, potassium hydrogen sulfite, ammonium hydrogen sulfite, sodium metabisulfite, potassium metabisulfite, formic acid, oxalic acid and mixtures thereof, b) a cosmetically acceptable liquid oil, c) a polyhydric alcohol, d) a solid fatty alcohol, e) a surfactant, f) water, and g) lecithin, wherein at least a portion of the above specified components (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f) and (g) forms a liquid crystal. These compositions satisfy needs for a lightening effect on a skin of a mammal.
