The maritime installation for laying a flexible pipe (6) or cable on a seabed or the bed of an inland water course incorporates a chair installed on the ship (1) on which is held a reel with the flexible pipe or cable. The chair at the front is provided with a number of rollers and devices for hydraulic pressure application on the reel. Rollers are drivable for setting the reel in rotation. The devices for the application of pressure on the driven rollers are formed by hydraulic jack screws. The chair is placed in the stern of the ship. The driven rollers are arranged in pairs in holders.
