A method of verifying that defect management area (DMA) information isnormallygenerated or updated upon reinitialization with certification in a discrecording andreproducing apparatus, and a test apparatus for performing the method. Themethod includesperforming reinitialization with certification in a recording and reproducingapparatus usingtest reference information and a test disc with physical defects, generatingtest informationfrom the defect management information which is generated after thereinitialization,comparing reference information expected from the test reference informationand physicaldefects with the test information, and providing the result of verification ofthe test information.Accordingly, it can be easily understood whether the DMA generation orupdating functionis normally performed in the disc recording and reproducing apparatus in amode ofreinitialization with certification.
