A firefighter's coat having a chinstrap whichis universally adapting and which automatically proper-ly fits the chin and neck region of a firefighter whowears the firefighter's coat and which is comfortableto the firefighter. The chinstrap has firefighting pro-tective material in one or more layers of material.Each layer of firefighting protective material is cap-able of change in configuration to accommodate and fitproperly the chin and neck region of the firefigher whowears the firefighter's coat. The material of the chin-strap which engages the chin and neck region of thefirefighter is relatively soft and comfortable to thefirefighter.
