This invention relates to a device and method forassisting people in changing their behaviour and inparticular assisting people to stop performing an acquiredbehavioural response such as using tobacco products, usingalcohol, or over-eating. The device and method interrupta user's acquired behavioural response to stimuli before adecision regarding a course of action is made. A set ofsymbols representing alternative responses to the acquiredbehavioural responses is then displayed to the user toencourage the user to perform an alternative response.The user acknowledges whether the acquired behaviouralresponse was performed or whether one of the alternativebehavioural responses was performed. The device recordsthe number of times either response was performed forlater analysis and record keeping.
