DYNAMIC INTERCHANGEABILITY OF VOICE AND DATA CHANNELS AND FACILITIES IN SWITCHED MODE NODAL NETWORKS

A method and a system for controlling a dynamic channel reconfigurationof an access facility in which a first bit stream is connected on a firstchannel to a secondchannel. A status associated with the first bit stream is queried. In responseto the query,status information, which includes a configuration map status, is received forthe first bitstream. The configuration map status for the first bit stream is then storedin a firstmemory area. A command is received for disconnecting the first bit stream onthe firstchannel from the second channel, and the first channel is disconnected fromthe secondchannel. A set of parameters associated with the first channel are thengroomed to matcha set of parameters associated with the third channel. A command is receivedforconnecting a second bit stream on the first channel to a third channel. Aconfigurationstatus for the second bit stream is stored in a second memory area. The firstchannel isthen connected to the third channel, and the second bit stream on the firstchannel isdirected to the third channel. The dynamic channel reconfigurationimplementation isrestored by disconnecting the first channel from the third channel, regroomingtheparameters associated with the first channel, storing retrieved configurationmap statusfor the first bit stream in the second memory area, connecting the firstchannel to thesecond channel, and directing the first bit stream on the first channel to thesecondchannel.
