The invention relates to a device for the password-protected access to a functional unit. The inventive device comprises a password input unit (20), and a password checking unit connected downstream of the password input unit (20) and configured to activate the functional unit to have a predetermined first functional operation when a correctly input password is detected. The first functional operation corresponds to an operation that is in accordance with the requirements and that is intended by the user. The password checking unit is linked with a password generating unit that is adapted to generate a first password as the correct password. Said password generating unit is further adapted to generate at least one second password. The password checking unit is adapted to initiate a second predetermined functional operation of the functional unit in response to the recognition of the second password. The second functional operation is a mode of operation that is different from an explicit error message or error routine and that is different from the first functional operation and does not correspond to the operation intended by the user.
