A system and method for the differential diagnosis of heart disease in a patient, involving attaching a 12 lead EKG machine to the patient (2); outputting leads II and V5 to an EMPI device (6) for the creation of a frequency domain based initial diagnosis (8); outputting the frequency domain based initial diagnosis (10, 12,14); creating a visual display of time domain based events output from the EKG machine (16); inspecting the visual display and creating a time domain based initial diagnosis (20); combining the time domain based initial diagnosis and frequency domain based initial diagnosis together (22); and from said combination determining a complete differential diagnosis of heart disease in the patient (24).
