The metal (in particular, steel) profile consists of a web (2) - which is strengthened and provided with a plane joining edge by cold forming - and at least one flange (12) which are welded together without additional weld material. The method of manufacture of such profiles consists of the following steps: ( a) a strip (2) is provided a plane joining edge in a cold-rolling section with edge rolls; (b) the strip (2) is smoothed in a following cold-rolling section; and (c) the strip (2) is positioned with plane joining edge against a strip (12) serving as a flange, and is joined to the latter by a longitudinal weld seam produced without additional weld material by means of radiation energy.
