A method of easily preparing a material retrieving dictionary that can output appropriate related words for one keyword, and a system of preparing it. Specifically, a method of preparing a material retrieving dictionary, which uses an input keyword as an entry word and stores words to be retrieved that correspond to that entry word, and which comprises (1) a step of subjecting existing materials in each field of retrieval to word decomposition and word analysis and then determining the relations between individual broken-down words, and (2) a step of extracting highly-related words with respect to the entry word as words to be retrieved and storing them.
