The invention concerns an on-board device wherein the floating trailing section (1) is designed to be collected by the drowning person and is used to serve as a control means for actuating the release of the floating element (3) capable of being towed. Said floating element (3) is linked to the boat by a section serving as tow cable and comprising at least shock absorbing (4) means; said floating element is provided with tow lugs and is symmetrical; said floating element (3) has a hydrodynamic shape and carries the victim (6) partially or wholly with minimum underwater pull. The invention is useful on board boats.
