Symbol language learning and communication system using tactile pattern identification

The known symbol language teaching and communication device includes one or more blocks 10 having a pattern of raised protrusions 16 having a circular top surface for tactile identification. Each pattern represents an alphanumeric character for recognition by the visually impaired. The block has an indication 18 on one side corresponding to an alphanumeric character for recognition by a non-visual impaired person. Each block has a curved area 17 provided on the block retaining slate to achieve the proper orientation of the block when forming a word or sentence. The block retaining slate 40 has a circular corner 52 provided to achieve the proper orientation of the block retaining slate when forming or reading a word or sentence. The block retaining slate has a triangular portion 62 between the interlocking members provided to achieve proper alignment and spacing of the blocks on the block retaining slate.
