The tube and shell heat exchanger has inlet and outlet manifolds (6, 7), a plurality of tubes (3) extending between the manifolds, and a shell (2) extending between the manifolds and sealing the tubes. The tube and shell heat exchanger has at least one baffle 16 through which the tube 3 passes to position and hold the tubes in spaced relation. The baffle 16 is constructed in a substantially helical shape of a polymeric material extending from the spiral axis to the periphery of the spiral. The tubes 3 pass through the material in spaced relation to one another and are spaced from the helical axis. Tubular and shell-type heat exchangers are especially for marine applications.
