Aldehyde Surfactants and Wastewater Treatment in Industrial, Commercial and Public Facilities

Nonionic surfactants having cyclic 1,3-dioxane and / or 1,3-dioxolane functionalities, which can be irreversibly decomposed by reducing the pH of the aqueous solution, are hydrogenated contaminants or other emulsified from an aqueous stream. It is useful in a variety of ways that require the removal of hydrophobic materials. After the surfactant has decomposed its aldehyde and polyol components, the hydrophobic components can be phase separated and removed from the aqueous stream by conventional means.
