PURPOSE: An apparatus for automatically adjusting vehicle height and a method for controlling operation of the same are provided to allow articles to be easily loaded/removed in/from the vehicle trunk by adjusting the height of the trunk through the control of damping force. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a trunk open detection sensor(10); an electronic variable damper(30) operating by a predetermined control signal; and a micro computer(20) connected between the trunk open detection sensor and the electronic variable damper, and which outputs a control signal for lowering the rear portion of the vehicle body by controlling damping force of the electronic variable damper when the signal indicating opening of the trunk door is applied from the trunk open detection sensor, and returning the rear portion of the vehicle body to the normal height by controlling damping force of the electronic variable damper when the signal indicating closure of the trunk door is applied from the trunk open detection sensor.
