A method and arrangement for the elimination of suspended matter and heavy metals as well as of bacteria and viruses from contaminated water

In elimination of suspended matter, heavy metals, bacteria and viruses from contaminated water by passing it over mussels in a mussel reactor, their vitality is promoted, performance optimized and activity increased by adjusting the water to (a) an ammonium content } 8 mg/l, (b) temperature of 10-25 deg C, with a change } 5 deg C/hour, (c) pH of 7.7-8.7 and (d) dissolved oxygen content of = 5 mg/l. An Independent claim is also included for the mussel reactor used, comprising several consecutive sections in the flow direction, with the size of the mussels of the Dreissena, Corbicula and/or Mytilopsis type, which are sessile on their substrates, decreasing in the flow direction.
