An overwinding prevention device for winch, comprising a winch drum wound up and down drivingly by instructions from an operation lever, a stop switch operated when a suspended article raised and lowered by the taking-up and paying-out of a hoist rope wound on the winch drum is wound up to a specified stop position, and a stopping device which stops the driving of the winch drum through the operation of the stop switch; further comprising a speed detection device which detects the winding up speed of the suspended article, a deceleration device which decelerates the driving of the winch drum when the suspended article arrives at a specified deceleration start position, and a deceleration control device which calculates the deceleration of the winch drum according to the winding up speed of the suspended article detected by the speed detection device and controls the driving of the deceleration device by the deceleration instructions according to the deceleration.
