A controller (9) and sensor (10) determine the quantity of water injected. This is restricted such that in the evaporation region, saturation of the exhaust gases is incomplete. In the outlet region, following mixing with ambient air, the resultant gas mixture is essentially fully saturated with steam. An Independent claim is included for cooling water injection equipment.
