An non-impregnated fibrous reinforcement mat (2a, 2b) is back-foamed in a back-foaming mold (1). The plastic resin matrix is introduced into the mat afterwards. Preferred features: The material forming the foamed layer is introduced into the opened and/or closed mold, after the mat is inlaid. It is hardened before extraction of the sandwich component (2) from the mold. Following extraction, plastic resin is injected onto the mat, completing the fiber-reinforced plastic layer.
