The device has a measuring coil (1), for central reception of the material sample, a coaxial compensation coil (2,3), for compensating the reduction in the measuring accuracy towards the ends of the measuring coil and a signal processing circuit, receiving the signals from both coils, for calculation of the magnetization of the material sample. The axial length of the compensation coil is determined from a defined equation in terms of the winding count of the compensation coil, the compensation coil diameter, the winding count of the measuring coil, the length of the measuring coil and the diameter of the measuring coil.
