Method for regenerating foundry sand bound to waterglass comprises: (i) mechanical pretreatment of the foundry sand, (ii) the addition of water to the pretreated foundry sand to form a pulpy composition, (iii) movement of the pulp by external forces, (iv) rinsing of the treated sand pulp with water, (v) removal of the water for processing, and (vi) drying of the sandy pulp to form a sand. Preferred Features: The foundry sand is pretreated using a sand lump breaker. The aqueous sand mixture is stirred in an attrition device. Cleaning substances (acids or bases) are added to the water. The water is processed using precipitating agents, e.g. H2SO4 or FeClSO4.
