The system has transport carriages (12) moving on tracks (9) with points (8) between stations and with memory units for destination codes and scannable devices for carriage identification codes. In a first region substations (3) control points depending on the detected identification codes. In a second trackside reader/writers (6,7) control points directly. An interface between the regions handles the transition from one region to another.
