Cold induction crucible used for melting difficult to melt metals comprises a side wall divided into two palisades, a thin electrical non-conducting layer on the inner sides of the side walls, a cooling system and an induction coil
Cold induction crucible comprises: (I) a side wall divided into two palisades; (II) a thin electrical non-conducting layer (32) on the inner sides of the side walls; (III) a cooling system for cooling the side walls of the crucible; and (IV) an induction coil (4) which heats the material (3) by induction. The temperature of the thin electrical non-conducting layer is brought to a value which lies below a temperature from which the layer can undergo a chemical reaction with a material in the crucible. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the cold induction crucible. Preferred Features: An intermediate layer is provided between the surface of the side walls directed towards the melt and the electrical non-conducting layer. The intermediate layer is a chromium-nickel layer.
