Device for galvanically depositing a metal or metal alloy comprises: (a) a process cell (10) containing a substrate connected as cathode (11) and an anode (12) connected to the cathode via an electrolyte (13) which contains ions of a chemical element to be deposited; (b) a spectral photometer (18) for determining the actual value of the ion concentration of the chemical element in the electrolyte; and (c) a solution cell (20) and a direct current source (24) to adjust the ion concentration in the electrolyte. Preferred Features: The spectral photometer is connected to the solution cell and direct current source via a regulating device (28). The anode is made of nickel , tin, zinc, copper, silver, cobalt or iron. The electrolyte contains ions of nickel, iron, tin, zinc, gold, silver, palladium, copper, chromium or cobalt.
