The use of flavine derivatives (I) for controlling pests is new. The use of flavine derivatives of formula (I), or their stereoisomers or salts, for controlling pests is new. R1 = H, CF3, alkyl or alkoxy; R2 = H, halo (preferably Cl), NO2, alkyl, alkoxy, dialkylamino (preferably NMe2), CH2COOH or NHCH2-CH(OH)CH(OH)CH(OH)-CH2OH; R3 = H, CH2CH2-CH(OH)CH(OH)-CH2OH, CH2-CH(OH)CH(OH)CH(OH)-CH2OH, phenyl, CH2CHO, CH2CH2OH, CH2-CH(OH)CH(OH)CH(OH)-CH(OH)CH3 or CH2-CH(OH)CH(OH)CH(OH)-CH2OPO3; and R4 = H or alkyl. Independent claims are included for: (1) pesticide compositions containing at least one compound (I), optionally in combination with other pesticide(s) selected from pyrethroids, pyrazole, neonicotinoids, avermectins, spinosynes and other agents effective against adult pests or having development inhibiting activity; (2) a method for controlling pests, involving application of (I) or a composition as in (1) to the pests and/or their habitat; and (3) preparation of pesticidal compositions by mixing (I) with suitable auxiliaries (specifically extenders and/or surfactants).
