Spare wheel lockdown as ballhead pin is locked home by spring-loaded jaws from both sides of ball when captured with jaws held against release by jaw arm blocking element.
Spare wheel lockdown as ballhead pin is locked home by spring-loaded jaws from both sides of ball when captured with jaws held against release by jaw arm blocking element.
The jaws (30,31) are initially held spaced by spring until the ball (22) of the pin (10) is captured at which point the jaws are urged back by springs (47,48) and held thus in grip setting using the blocking element (39) to prevent jaw reverse. The jaws positively enclose the pin ball (22) and the blocking element consists of an electromotorized bolt which swings in between the jaw arms (36,37) to splay these for ball capture (22). The jaws come in sheet form to pivot round axes (32,33) which lie in the same plane as the ball center when captured. The arm pairs (36,37) form th U-legs of a jaw carrier. The swivel axis of the locking plate (38) stands at right angles to the jaw axis (32,33) and offset from the center line of the locking pin (10).
