The device has a tube extending from an oil sump under a crankcase to an area of the engine, which is accessible from above. The tube is multi-sectional and at a first longitudinal channel part (5) is formed by a hollow section oft he crankcase (3). A second part (7) extends between the first part and the oil sump (9). A third tube part (10) located mainly outside the crankcase extends from the first part into the upper area of the engine (1), and has a closure (11). The tube is curved and extends within the outer contour of the engine.
