At a bobbin winder, the bobbin frame (18) is set by a bobbin frame adjustment computer (39) before winding starts. A controlled drive (44) is operated to give the basic cone configuration, according to the bobbin sleeve format in use. The drive control is programmed so that, during bobbin winding, the bobbin frame is swung by an additional conical value. The bobbin frame is swung back by the drive to deliver a fully-wound cross wound bobbin to a following transport system, to give a trouble-free bobbin transfer for onwards movement. The bobbin frame is swung back so that the mantle line of the full bobbin is parallel to the conveyor belt surface of the transport system. The drive is a step motor, with a self-locking gear unit (49) at the bobbin frame, as a threaded spindle (43) keyed to the rotor of the step motor, and an integrated nut thread in a mounting bolt (46). The mounting bolt rotates in a mounting drilling at a shoulder (47) of the bobbin frame. The threaded spindle is fixed axially, and rotates in a swing bolt (41) in a mounting drilling (38) at the bobbin frame carrier (35). The bobbin frame carrier is keyed at one swing axis (19), and has a mounting drilling (36) to hold a second swing axis (25). The gear unit has a high reduction ratio of 100-200.
