Single-stage synthesis of crosslinked polyolefin, useful e.g. as supports for organic synthesis, by catalytic ring-opening reaction between cyclic and bicyclic olefins

Catalytic ring-opening metathesis copolymerization method for preparing crosslinked polyolefins (A) in a single step by reacting functionalized cyclic olefin (I) and a variable amount of a bis-cyclic olefin (II), and crosslinking in presence of a ruthenium- or osmium-carbene complex (III) as catalyst. (III) have formula (X)2 (L)2 M=CHR M = osmium or ruthenium; X = fluoro, chloro, bromo or iodo; L = tertiary phosphine or phosphite ligand, or together they form a diphosphine, diphosphite or imidazolin-2-ylidene; R = organic group, e.g. aryl, alkyl, alkenyl, vinyl or benzyl, or heteroatom-bound group, e.g. alkoxy, aryloxy, alkenyloxy, alkylthio or arylthio.
